L’installation sonore présentée ici est indissociable du lieu d’exposition puisque Pascal Broccolichi a travaillé sur ce site en accompagnant toute la construction du bâtiment de 2001 à 2003. Équipé de capteurs accéléromètres, il a enregistré le mouvement sismique et électromagnétique de l’Espace de l’Art Concret depuis les fondations jusqu’à la pose de la dernière dalle du chantier. En diffusant 10 ans plus tard ces ondes dans les espaces d’expositions temporaires de la Donation Albers-Honegger, il ranime en quelque sorte la dynamique vivante du lieu et superpose sur elle-mêmes, la résonance des harmoniques pures avec leur mémoire immatérielle.

Sound representations in contemporary creations

This international group exhibit intends to explore the synthesis between image and sound, the different graphical and physical representations of sound, and its evolution in the context of contemporary art. It charts a course of the most representative artists and pieces of the last decade, also focusing on "visual music" experiments by artists from the beginning of the last century such as Oskar Fischinger and James Whitney. Visualizar el sonido [Visualising Sound] originated in the idea of generating dialogue among all of the pieces that make up the exhibition, spanning a century of creation based on the same idea or concept: to dominate the wave, represent and tame it; the need to go beyond the place where our senses have brought us, which is, after all, the essence of all art. It seeks to show the broadest possible spectrum of the multiple representations of sound, investigating the sound dimension of the spaces we live in.

Évoluant dans différentes disciplines, le travail de Pascal Broccolichi prend sa source dans une approche focalisée sur l'écoute, et tout particulièrement dans le son envisagé comme un vocabulaire de formes qui se prêtent à la création d'installations. Comme cadre pour sa recherche, l'artiste a développé un réseau d'environnements multiples liés par des relations continues entre une œuvre et la suivante. En exploitant les principes habituels de certaines lois acoustiques et leur champ d'application technologique autour de l'espace d'exposition, Pascal Broccolichi coordonne la typologie des sons avec nos capacités de perception.
Historien de l'art, philosophe de formation, également commissaire d'exposition, conservateur au Mamco, Thierry Davila est l'auteur de nombreux ouvrages sur l'art contemporain (L'Art médecine, RMN, 1999, Marcher, créer. Déplacements, flâneries, dérives dans l'art de la fin du XXe siècle, Éditions du Regard, 2002, In extremis. Site of Sound: Of Architecture and the Ear Vol. 2

Since the publication of the first volume of Site of Sound in 1999 the issues
and activities pertaining to sound and architecture have expanded to circulate
more dynamically within the fields of sound art, sound design, and spatial
practices. From acoustical technologies and urban planning to public art,
concerns for auditory structures and the experiences of listening are finding
deeper footing within both artistic and environmental contexts. Recent noise
mappings across Europe, along with new possibilities for acoustical
implementation, as well as the ongoing emergence of sound art and design
educational programs, point toward sound as a crucial subject for thinking
through contemporary culture and politics.
